Artisan Builders is a small independent construction company owned currently as a sole proprietorship by Kip de Moll, based in Burlington, Vermont and operated mostly in Chittenden, Franklin and Addison Counties. While some work is contracted directly with home-owners, the majority of projects at this time are undertaken as a sub-contract to other construction companies.
Since 1977, Kip has been involved in residential construction either through his own company or working for others. First wearing a nail belt at the age of 7 while living in a home that had 5 additions, his life time of experience has been gained through all sizes of companies and strength of economies, always returning to self-ownership to stay busy and ensure income.
Primarily a remodeling company, Artisan Builders with as many as 14 employees has built new homes and supplied simple handyman services. Currently, the focus is on siding renovations to customers who want maintenance free exteriors with a small crew of one or two helpers. Primarily working with vinyl siding and aluminum trim, Artisan Builders is expert at cedar clapboards and even prefers fiber-cement siding as a green-building alternative to conventional methods.
After a catastrophic injury in 2009 that required several years of recovery, Kip did not pursue contracts again for Artisan Builders until the summer of 2014. At that time, instead of rebuilding the company as a design/build firm contracting directly with customers, he has chosen to concentrate on production under sub-contracts to other builders, although interesting projects of any sort will always be considered.
